Campground Review – Yucaipa Regional Park – Yucaipa, California

Yucaipa Regional Park - Foot BridgeDescription

Yucaipa Regional Park is a lovely park and campground nestled against the Crafton Hills near Yucaipa, California. This quiet park has sweeping vistas of the Crafton Hills and of the rugged San Bernardino Mountains. The park features many fun activities, like hiking, equestrian riding, fishing, and disc golf, as well as picnic areas and a swim lagoon with water slides and a white sandy beach. This is another great park to relax at or to use as a base to explore the many local attractions in Oak Glen, Redlands, and Riverside.

Details

We stayed for 10 nights at Yucaipa Regional Park in February, 2017. This is a clean, quiet and well-maintained park. The park is extremely popular and books up fast, especially for weekends, holidays and peak season. Sites are often available for mid-week. Make your reservations well in advance.

Cost

For 10 nights at a 50 amp full hookup pull-thru site, we paid about $37 per night, including tax and a $1 per pet per night fee.

Ratings (1-5)

Accessibility – 3/5

The campground is easily accessible via well-maintained paved roads. Park roads and lanes in the campground are well-maintained asphalt. The park has both pull-thru and back-in sites and can accommodate large rigs. The campground facilities have provisions for Universal access.

Note: One drawback to accessibility to the campground are the narrow lanes and sharp turns at the campground entrance/exit. Invariably a large rig will not make the turns without running tires over the curb. These turns really should be widened.

Note: Gates to the park are locked after hours – be sure to carry the current gate codes/card when returning late.

Facilities/Amenities – 3/5

The campground offers basic amenities, including full hookup sites, group multi-sites, tent sites, RV dump station, restrooms and showers, playgrounds, disc golf and horseshoe pits.

The park also features picnic areas with shelters, fire rings and barbecues, disc golf, fishing lakes (bass, catfish and trout), hiking & equestrian trails, and a swim lagoon with a sandy beach and water slides. Activities include fishing, disc golf, hiking and equestrian riding.

We were not impressed by the campground restrooms in our loop – concrete block stalls with half-doors, largely exposed to the elements, and stainless steel commodes, better suited to a public beach area.

Site quality – 4/5

RV Sites have full hookups with 50/30/20 amp electric, barbecue grill and a picnic table. Sites have concrete pads or asphalt and good separation between sites. Many sites have shade trees. The campground has back-in, pull-thru and multi-site pull-thru sites, as well as dry tent sites.

Scenic Value – 4/5

The park is nicely landscaped with three fishing lakes, large grassy lawn areas and many sycamore, eucalyptus and pine trees. The park has sweeping views of the Crafton Hills and San Bernardino Mountains.

Location/Isolation – 4/5

Nestled against the Crafton Hills on the outskirts of Yucaipa, the park feels isolated from the surrounding community. A housing tract and industrial-looking school detracts from the view in some areas of the campground. The campground is generally quiet, with occasional noise from the frontage road and nearby sports park. This is an extremely popular campground and is quite busy on weekends, holidays and during summer.

Paws Friendliness – 3/5

The campground is pet friendly, but does not have an enclosed pet run or cleanup bag stations. The park is large enough for a long walk with your pet.

Overall Rating – 4/5

Overall, the Yucaipa Regional Park campground is a very nice place to stay, with many fun activities. The park is a good base for exploring nearby arts, entertainment, shopping and other local attractions. We enjoyed our stay here.

We received a moderate to strong 4G Verizon signal at this campground. We did not need to deploy our cellular antenna booster to improve MiFi hot spot internet access. The campground does not have WiFi service.

Water Quality

The water at this campground tested moderately hard – we added our water softener to the water filtration stack.
