Details
We stayed for 1 night at the Westwind RV Park in early May, 2018. This is a very basic, full service, clean, and reasonably well-maintained park. This is a Good Sam park.
This was an unplanned stop due to an bad accident which had closed the John Hart Highway, BC-97, between Chetwynd and Dawson Creek. Rather than take a very long detour or wait at the traffic stop for an estimated five or more hours, we opted for a night at a local campground.
Cost
For 1 night at a 30 amp full hookup pull-thru site we paid about $33(CN), including tax and Good Sam discount. There were no fees for pets or an extra vehicle.
Ratings (1-5)
Accessibility – 4/5
The campground is accessible via paved roads. Lanes in the campground are fairly well-maintained gravel, although the lanes and sites could use more gravel and some potholes need repair. The park lanes look as though they could get muddy after a heavy rain or snow melt. The park has pull-thru sites and can accommodate large rigs. The campground bathhouse and laundry have some provisions for Universal access, but the small office building could use a ramp.
Facilities/Amenities – 3/5
The campground offers basic amenities, including full hookup sites, tent sites, free WiFi, playground, coin-op laundry, restrooms and showers. Facilities were clean and in decent repair.
Site quality – 3/5
RV sites are pull-thru with full hookups, 30/20 amp electric service, and picnic table. Sites are level gravel with little separation between sites. Most sites have a shade tree.
Scenic Value – 3/5
The park is essentially a large parking lot with shade trees, but is bordered on one side by woodland and has nice views of rolling forested hills.
Location/Isolation – 3/5
The park is conveniently located on the outskirts of Chetwynd, just off highway BC-97, and does not feel very isolated. Sites are close together and there is little visually to dispel the feeling of camping in a parking lot. The park is reasonably quiet but does get road noise, at times.
Paws Friendliness – 3/5
The campground is pet friendly, but does not have an enclosed pet run or cleanup bag stations. The park is large enough for a decent walk with your pet.
Overall Rating – 3/5
Overall, the Westwind RV Park is a fair place to stay while passing through Chetwynd or exploring the surrounding area. We enjoyed our brief stay here.
Additional info
Internet access
We received a moderate 4G signal at this campground. Access was roaming, but did not cost extra with our Verizon Unlimited plan. High speed data usage throttled down after 500 Mb per device per day. We did not try the free campground WiFi service.
Water Quality
The campground water tested hard – we added our water softener to the water filtration stack.
