Ratings (1-5)

Accessibility – 3/5

The campground is accessible from the Seward Highway via paved and gravel roads. There is a somewhat steep railroad crossing at the turnoff from the Seward Highway which might cause dragging on some long, low-riding rigs. The gravel road into the park has potholes which need attention. Lanes in the campground are well-maintained gravel. The park has both pull-thru and back-in sites and can accommodate large rigs. The campground facilities have provisions for Universal access.

Facilities/Amenities – 3/5

The campground offers basic amenities, including full and partial hookup sites, RV dump station, restrooms and free showers, coin-op laundry, free WiFi, phone and cable TV. The park also features a common area near the creek with fire rings and picnic tables. Facilities were clean and in good repair.

Site quality – 3/5

RV Sites have full or partial (water/electric) hookups, cable TV, and a picnic table. Electric service is 50/30/20 amp for some sites, 30/20 for others. Some sites have phone jacks. Sites are 30 feet wide gravel. The campground has back-in and pull-thru sites.

Scenic Value – 5/5

The park is in a forested valley and has spectacular views of snowy mountain peaks. A rushing creek flows past the campground.

Location/Isolation – 4/5

This quiet, forested park has a great location with spectacular mountain scenery and feels very isolated. Sites are somewhat close together and can feel crowded when the park is full. The campground is generally quiet, although the horn from a passing train is occasionally heard.

Paws Friendliness – 4/5

The campground is pet friendly, but does not have an enclosed pet run or cleanup bag stations. The park is large enough for a decent walk with your pet.

Overall Rating – 4/5

Overall, the Stoney Creek RV Park is a lovely place to stay while exploring the many attractions around Seward, Alaska. We enjoyed our stay here and would love to return another time.

Additional info

Internet access

We received a moderate 4G signal at this campground. Since this was not a Verizon network access was roaming, but did not cost extra with our Unlimited plan. Our MiFi hot spot would not connect to the local network, while our mobile phone hot spots worked as expected. We tried to use the free campground WiFi service a few times, but could not get a connection. Internet speeds were slow the cellular connection.

Water Quality

The campground water tested soft – we did not add our water softener to the water filtration stack.

Bear Advisory

Note: This is bear country. Be alert and do not leave food or trash out which might attract bears. Keep pets on leash and do not leave them unattended outside.
