The park is in a peaceful rural area on the outskirts of town, with pleasing views of forested hills and of the pastoral Bulkley River valley. The campground is nicely landscaped with copses of trees, wide grassy areas, colorful flowerbeds and hanging baskets.
Location/Isolation – 4/5
This lovely, forested park is far enough off the Yellowhead Highway to feel peaceful and isolated. The campground is generally quiet, although there is still some road noise and the distant horn from a passing train is occasionally heard.
Paws Friendliness – 4/5
The campground is pet friendly, but does not have an enclosed pet run or cleanup bag stations. The park is large enough for a decent walk with your pet. Well behaved pets may be let off-leash in the large meadow area.
Overall Rating – 4/5
Overall, the Shady Rest RV Park is a lovely place to stay while travelling the Yellowhead Highway. We enjoyed our stay here and would love to return another time.
Additional info
Internet access
We received a moderate 4G signal at this campground. Access was roaming, but did not cost extra with our Verizon Unlimited plan. High speed data usage throttled down after 500 Mb per device per day.
We used the free campground WiFi service a few times – this was the best campground WiFi we’ve encountered – stable connections, with speeds in excess of 40 Mbps.
Water Quality
The campground water tested hard – we added our water softener to the water filtration stack.
