Details
We stayed for seven-nights at the Bellingham / Lynden KOA in late April, 2018, using it as a relaxing break before crossing into Canada. This is a lovely, clean, nicely landscaped, and well-maintained campground just a short drive from the border crossing at Sumas, WA. The campground staff was friendly and helpful during our stay.
Cost
For seven-nights at a 50 amp full hookup pull-thru site, we paid about $45 per night, including tax and our KOA Value Kard Rewards Discount. There were no fees for pets or an extra vehicle.
Ratings (1-5)
Accessibility – 4/5
The campground is easily via paved roads. Lanes in the park are well-maintained asphalt or gravel. The park has both pull-thru and back-in sites and can accommodate large rigs. The campground facilities have some provisions for Universal access.
One thing we feel could use improvement are placement of the concrete curbs along some of the sites. We found that it was extremely difficult to pull in or out of our site without running over a curb. Removal of the curbs or restructuring them, at least on certain sites, would improve accessibility for large rigs.
Facilities/Amenities – 3/5
The campground offers the basic amenities expected from a KOA, including full and partial hookup sites, dry tent sites, rental cabins, RV dump station, propane, restrooms and showers, game room, laundry room, playground, horseshoes, and swimming pool. The park has a small general store with basic groceries, household goods, camping supplies, souvenirs and tourist info for the local area. The park features a snack/espresso bar, firewood sales, picnic area, mini-golf, paddle boat rentals, and fishing. The park also has long-term stay/seasonal RV sites. Facilities are clean and well-maintained.
Site quality – 3/5
Sites have full or partial hookups with 50/30/20 amp electric, and a picnic table. Sites are gravel, with grassy median and little separation between sites. Many sites have shade trees.
Scenic Value – 5/5
The campground is nicely landscaped and well-maintained. The landscaping has areas of dense spruce forest, open park-like stands of forest, and large swaths of lawn, as well as small lakes and a stream. Ornamental plantings add nice accents of color and texture to the park-like setting.
Location/Isolation – 4/5
This quiet and relaxing campground is in a residential and semi-rural neighborhood on the outskirts of Lyndon. The campground feels isolated, but closeness of sites during busy times detracts from that feeling.
Paws Friendliness – 4/5
The campground is pet friendly, but does not have cleanup bag stations or enclosed pet run. The campground is large enough for a decent walk with your pet.
Overall Rating – 4/5
Overall, the Bellingham / Lynden KOA campground is a lovely and relaxing place to stay when visiting the area. The campground is a convenient stop on the US side of the US/Canada border crossings at Blaine or Sumas. We enjoyed our stay here and would certainly visit another time.
Additional info
Internet access
We received a moderate 4G Verizon signal at this campground. We did not need to deploy our cellular antenna booster to improve MiFi hot spot internet access. The campground provided free WiFi which we also used during our stay. Campground WiFi speed varied, but was generally reliable.
Water Quality
The water at this campground tested soft – we did not add our water softener to the water filtration stack.
