Ratings (1-5)

Accessibility – 4/5

The campground is easily accessible from highway US-160 via paved street and wide gravel drive. The wide lanes in the park are reasonably well-maintained gravel. The park has pull-thru and back-in RV sites and can accommodate large rigs. The campground facilities have provisions for Universal access.

Facilities/Amenities – 4/5

The park amenities include full or partial hookup 50 or 30 amp RV sites, tent sites, cabin rentals, restrooms, showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, propane service, firewood sales, RV dump station, camp store, recreation hall, pavilion, event tent, playground, enclosed pet run, basketball, horseshoes, corn hole, rental bikes, and seasonal swimming pool.

The park also features a snack bar with Hunt Brothers Pizza, pancake breakfasts, and ice cream socials. Facilities are clean and well-maintained – a bit tired looking and could use renovation.

Site quality – 3/5

RV sites are full or partial hookup with 50 or 30 amp electric, Wi-Fi, picnic table, and fire ring. Park sites are pull-thru or back-in, clean, and some have shade trees. Site is gravel with grass or dirt/gravel medians.

Scenic Value – 3/5

The campground has nice landscaping and is clean, but looks utilitarian and hard-used (partly due to the arid environment). There are nice vistas of the distant San Juan Mountains and Sangre de Cristo Mountains, dark skies, and the occasional spectacular desert sunrise/sunset.

Location/Isolation – 4/5

The campground is in a quiet rural area about 4 miles outside of Alamosa, but is adjacent to busy highway US-160. The park does get road noise, but not that noticeable and is quieter at night. Sites are fair sized and do not feel crowded.

Paws Friendliness – 5/5

The campground is pet friendly, with cleanup stations and a K9 Kamp enclosed off-leash pet run. The campground is large enough for a good walk with your pet.

Overall Rating – 4/5

Overall, the Alamosa KOA Journey is a convenient and relaxing place to stay while visiting the Alamosa area. We enjoyed our stay and would visit another time.
