Description

The Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA is a beautiful campground on the wild and scenic Mendocino Coast. The campground is set in a shady copse of coastal pine next to Manchester Beach State Park. This KOA is a great base from which to explore local attractions, such as coastal vistas and beaches, majestic redwoods, Point Arena and Point Cabrillo lighthouses, and the Anderson Valley Wine Country.  Continue reading →

The above quote, as displayed at the main office of the Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA, certainly reflects our experience of these past few weeks. We have visited with family, made some wonderful new friends and visited stunningly scenic locations – experiences which have certainly taken our breath away.

After a long winter with little travel, it feels great exploring the open road again. After leaving our winter digs at Silent Valley Club, we traveled to Paso Robles for a week-long stay at the Wine Country RV Resort in the heart of the central coast wine region of California. Although we have visited the area before and gone wine tasting on a few occasions, this was the first time we stayed in Paso Robles.

Scattered throughout Paso Robles and the surrounding area are more than 200 wineries with an amazing variety of wines. We were really looking forward to a more leisurely exploration of the area and opportunity to sample some of the wines. We were not disappointed!

Hot Tubbing in Desert Hot Springs

Palm trees, hot tubs, warm weather and fresh snow on the not-so-distant mountains. A-h-h-h-h! What more could newly fledged snow birds ask for as we pass from late fall into winter? Kim and I are now back in southern California and enjoying a relaxing stay at Sam’s Family Spa Hot Water Resort in Desert Hot Springs, California. We’re glad to be together catching our breath at a relaxing place.

Minnesota and Iowa Ramblings

Lutsen-Mtn-Fall-Color-Pano-2As of this writing it is a cold, windy, and dreary rainy afternoon in central Iowa, a perfect time to work on a blog post. With the gusty wind, cold rain, and even sleet, trees are fast shedding their colorful leaves and the woods are taking on their winter bare aspect. Park Rapids, an area we visited about a month ago, just had their first blizzard of the season and northern Iowa saw their first snow flurries with this storm. Visiting Friends & Family in the Midwest

Blue-Mesa-Clouds-2As of this writing, we are in Itasca State Park, Minnesota. We have covered a lot of territory (1500 miles) since our last post. From Ouray, Colorado, we stopped for a week at the Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch, near Gunnison, Colorado. This RV resort is just across the highway from the Blue Mesa Reservoir on the Gunnison River. The resort offers sweeping vista views of the lake and of the surrounding rolling hills, mesas and sage barrens. Continue reading →
